"'The ASTSBC has opened up a huge knowledge base for me.  Coming to the annual conference and getting all the info on HOS, in particular, was very good for me.  I really like having the NAPT courses offered at each conference and try to take advantage of them.  And, of course, the networking - talking with other people in the same job, having the same type of problems and how we all have dealt with some of these problems...."

"My first association with the Association of School Transportation Supervisors of B.C. was attending the 1970 AGM as a fledging  Administration Assistant for School District #89 (Shuswap).  One of my roles in the School District was to manage the Pupil Transportation System consisting of forty-six school buses.

The support I received from Transportation Supervisors from that AGM on, was instrumental in assisting me, not only in managing the system, but in writing, later on in my career, The Pupil Transportation Manual.

The role of Transportation Supervisor is very important in a School District and one that is often overlooked, because most people do not understand what the job entails.  Developing routes and schedules, training drivers, dealing with the bus discipline issues, maintaining the  fleet and the list goes on.

The safety record in relation to school buses in our Province is outstanding, a testimony to the excellent work of the Supervisors and drivers.

I appreciate the work of you Association and wish you continued success in all your endeavors."

"Thought that I would jot down one of my experiences where the information that I received as a result of being a member of the ASTSBC has helped me out.

One of the seminars at the 2002 conference was about accident preparedness.  The seminar included a checklist of questions to ask yourself as an operator about whether or not you are prepared for an accident.

As a result of this seminar, we revamped our procedures and created a clear path of responsibilities for each of the managers.  Unfortunately, one month after the convention we were forced to put our revamped procedures to a 'real world' application.  Because of the accident preparedness training we received at the convention, we were prepared for the accident and all of the confusion surrounding it.

We now review you accident procedures every six months to make sure that we are ready.  This one seminar alone has made it worthwhile being a member."

"I have been a member since 1991 and been an executive member since 1996. I have found the members of our Association a great source of information and guidance when faced with a question or problem in the operation of my school districts student bussing. The collective talent that is available to me through the association is invaluable. I have met many colleagues and government officials from around the Province and across the country through attending National and Provincial student transportation conferences and many have become close personal friends.  While working hard to maintain professionalism and due diligence in my work I feel safe in the knowledge that the association is "there" for me."
