ASTSBC School Bus Driver of the Year Award

The School Bus Driver of the Year Award is to be selected annually on the basis of his/her profession of transporting school students to and from school on a regular basis.  The person nominated must be currently employed as a school bus driver from a district that is a member in good standing of the Association.

The criteria for the selection of the ASTSBC School Bus Driver of the Year shall be as follows:

1) A nomination letter, together with the package of information can be sent to the Secretary-Treasurer of the Association of School Transportation Services of British Columbia (ASTSBC) no later than November 30th of the current year.

2) To be considered for this award, each candidate’s nomination package must contain a nomination letter that includes and addresses the following:

  • Ability to manage students – brief description of examples
  • Professionalism – brief description of examples
  • Attitude – brief description of examples
  • Years of service as a school bus driver in British Columbia
  • Copy of a current driver’s abstract with no points of preventable accidents
  • Professional development
  • Outstanding provision of services
  • A minimum of two (2) letters of reference or narratives, preferably from a different client or stakeholder group supporting the candidate’s nomination (ie. parent, student passenger, peer, transportation supervisor, teacher, principal)

The applicant shall be chosen on the basis of the submissions meeting the above requirements.  The selection will go forward for final approval from the Executive no later than January 31st of the following year.  The driver must not have previously been awarded the ASTSBC School Bus Driver of the Year Award.

The Selection Panel

  1. A panel of three shall be appointed by the executive of the ASTSBC to evaluate all of the nominations.
  2. The panel shall be comprised of different stakeholders who are current members of the Association.
  3. An Executive member whose district/company has nominated a candidate may not serve on the panel.
  4. The panel’s evaluation of the criteria should follow the same process as evaluating or short-listing applicant’s for HR competitions.
  5. The evaluation of the entries is not up for discussion or appeal and the panel’s recommendation is final.
